Emerging Leaders Programme

Become the leader you strive to be with our property-specific mentoring programme, offering continuous improvement for the emerging leader.

Meet the Emerging Leaders Programme

The Emerging Leaders Programme is a dynamic experience that combines proven leadership strategies with mentorship from experienced industry professionals, empowering mentees to grow and excel in their careers.

The Property Council Emerging Leaders Programme (ELP) was launched in 2019 as an exclusive opportunity for Property Council members to strengthen their industry knowledge through collaborative learning and shared experiences.

The programme includes:

👉🏻 An immersive in-person Emerging Leaders Training Day in Auckland on 28 April.

👉🏼  Complimentary registration to a half-day Critical Skills in Leadership Course run by DevelopU.

👉🏽  Monthly individual meetings with an experienced industry mentor committed to your success. Emerging Leaders and mentors will be paired for the year to enable a robust and enduring professional relationship.

👉🏾  Three interactive online ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions focused on critical leadership skills and capabilities in today’s property market.

Applications for the 2025 cohort are now closed – watch this space for further announcements!

"The Emerging Leaders Programme has been a transformative experience for me. It provided not only valuable industry knowledge but also the opportunity to build a strong and supportive connection with my mentor, Jenna. Through her guidance, I’ve found my voice and developed greater confidence in my day-to-day role. The programme has helped me sharpen my leadership skills and approach challenges with a new perspective, making a significant impact on both my personal and professional growth."

“The Emerging leader’s programme connected me with an incredible mentor and group of peers in the property and construction industry. I was able to learn more than I ever expected to from the experience. We built a real friendship through the mentoring programme and I still catch up with my mentor every month, even after the programme has ended. Our cohort of Emerging Leaders all still stay in contact and catch up to discuss industry trends and our careers on a quarterly basis.”

FAQs

The mentee fee is $860 + GST, which covers the Training Day, 12 months of mentoring, three Lunch and Learn sessions and complimentary registration to a half-day Critical Skills in Leadership Course run by DevelopU. The programme does not cover travel to these events, however, the Lunch and Learns will be conducted online.

All mentees require the endorsement of their organisation, and the mentee fee will be billed to the member company name. As mentors are generously volunteering their time, no payment is required.

Yes! We maintain a waitlist for those who wish to be notified as soon as applications open for the next programme. Get in touch with the DevelopU team to be added to the waitlist.

Mentees: Ideal candidates are individuals looking to develop their professional skills within the property industry. A willingness to learn and share is key to gaining essential knowledge for success both professionally and personally. We typically look for mentees with between 3-8 years of experience.

Mentors: Ideal candidates are enthusiastic about supporting the professional and personal growth of mentees. They should be willing to share their industry expertise and experience while also enhancing their own leadership skills.

We strongly encourage past mentees to return as mentors, and previous mentors are always welcome to rejoin the programme.

This programme is part of Property Council’s exclusive membership benefits. To participate, both mentees and mentors must be employed by a Property Council New Zealand member organisation.

There isn’t an option to choose a mentor. Our team follows a thorough selection process to ensure the best possible matches between mentors and mentees. We consider factors such as location, similar interests, and preferences when making pairings, which each mentor and mentee can share in their application. It is rare that a situation arises where a match doesn’t work well.
